How do you run your sankirtana meetings amongst devotees in order to inspire, support and encourage them.

Here are some of my top tips for organizing and inspiring your troops:

1. Focus on hearing and chanting together with lots of participation from the members of the group. We chant the Brahma Samhita together as well as a chapter of Gita and some astakams. When devotees feel a togetherness through hearing and chanting, they naturally feel enthusiastic to distribute the holy names to others.

2. Identify leaders. Find the members of your group who show the most initiative and then empower them to lead others. In this way you can expand.

3. Encourage the heck out of everyone. Everyone likes/need encouragement. Always be on the lookout for people doing things that are praiseworthy (even small things) and then praise their efforts publicly and privately. You cannot do this enough. Your members will thrive.

4. ISV: Devotional service should be Individual, Spontaneous and Voluntary. Seek to inspire this kind of participation and spirit in your team.

5. Always generate a fresh challenge. Your group will thrive as you continue to innovate and to present them with unique and fresh challenges. Make goals and then have everyone work as a team to achieve them.

6. Engage everyone. Everyone can participate in some way. Look for ways to utilize everyone's contribution to the team. This is an art. With some people you have to look a little harder. The idea is to find even the smallest sparks and then to fan them.
